I know she’s outrageous but do we really need a Jem and the Holograms live-action movie?

OK Hollywood we understand that you’re running out of idea and let’s be frank (No you, not me) that you’ve been in this mode for some time now. But seriously a Jem and the Holograms live-action movie? It’s a 1980’s cartoon with charm, I’ll admit that… hell I watched it everyday along side of Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines and Robotixs,  I’m pretty sure most people in my age bracket has as well. For those that don’t know, Jem and the Holograms is about a rock band who gain different persona’s with the help of a holographic computer (Synergy). Think Sharon Apple from Macross for a more modern take on things. `

But that’s my age bracket, how many children…. people outside of that know anything about Jem? That show hasn’t been relevant in decades! Heck even the toy line failed to live up to expectations and again that was in the 1980’s, didn’t anything just about sell back then? And yes I’m aware that the Hub runs episodes but at so early in the morning how many people are aware of the show?

So why is Hollywood now of all times making a movie out of the show. Going further why did they cast the people that they did. Jem and the Holograms was about sex appeal, character and charisma. Sadly when I see the assembled cast I don’t see that, but maybe it’s me.

Is it just me?

Despite my rant I’m not hating on the show, not at all. In fact I recommend that if you’ve never heard or seen the show to please check it out. It is without a doubt of the better cartoons of that era and it still holds up today. I just feel that this is a cash grab, an attempt to take advantage of a mild successful cartoon show that most people won’t even remember, one that will damage it’s credibility and make it nothing more than show of catchy songs.

Maybe I’m coming about the idea all wrong and perhaps the movie will be some-what decent.

I’d suggest checking out tone of more popular Jem and the Holograms wiki’s over at Jem Wiki, if you get bored and want to see what the show was about. And if you want to find out more about the upcoming move head over to Jemthemovie.com

Now excuse me while I go expose my 12 year old daughter to this forgotten wonder before the live-action movie corrupts her.

Someone (Michael Bay?) go make a Robotixs movie… an anime or even a CGI movie. Go… NOW!
