A look at “The Art of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow” from Titan Books

By Keith MitchellMarch 10, 2014

Just in time for the release of Konami’s Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2, comes an artbook dedicated to showcasing some of the best drawings and designs from the lead concept artists, Juan Antonio Alcazar and Jose Luis Vaello from the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow series.

Published by Titan books, The Art of Castlavania: Lords of Shadow is a 192-page hardcover collection full of some of the most detailed and beautiful pieces of art to date regarding both Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 1 & 2 as well as Mirror of Fate. The book it’s self is a sigh to behold and is very well done, from the cover with it’s raised text down to each page engraved with works of art. The art is beautiful, dark and moody which is a perfect symbolic likening to the game. A perfect presentation which shows that both artists are masters to their craft and in a majestic way the art seems so vivid that it could burst from its pages.

Inside the book you’ll find various pieces of art and information of the Lords of Shadow universe; From design concepts, key characters, locations, detailed information regarding the  enemies found throughout both games and even the weapons used as well as illustrations that show how the weapons are used.

From the sun-kissed abbeys to the darkest, dankest corners of grand gothic cathedrals and castles, The Art of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is an extensive look at one of the most sumptuous videogame worlds created in recent years. It is a monument to the hard work of MercurySteam, and the ultimate companion to a grand new take on a classic series.

Titan Books pulled out all the stops with this masterpiece and it shows. As an added plus there are two versions of the book, the hardcover edition that we reviewed which is available for $29.99 directly from Titan Books but also a a limited edition run of 500 copies which include a Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 concept art print that’s signed by the entire MercurySteam team. which is available for $45. But don’t be surprised if the limited edition book is sold out, 500 copies can and will have likely already sold out completely.

Available at Titan Books & Amazon.com

Pick this book up if you can. You won't be disappointed!

If you’re a fan of the Castlevania series and / or you happen to enjoy artbooks then you definitely should seek this one out, you won’t be disappointed one bit with this gem. This is a high quality artbook book and the attention to detail definitely shows. Would make a perfect gift to any Castlevania fan or to anyone who appreciates good / high quality art work.
