2K has officially pulled back the curtain on NBA 2K27, releasing the game’s first gameplay trailer alongside an early preview of several community-requested features that will arrive when the latest basketball sim launches later this year.
The new trailer showcases cover athletes Victor Wembanyama, Caitlin Clark and Derrick Rose, highlighting improved visuals, smoother player movement and a glimpse at the gameplay changes fans can expect. While the trailer doesn’t dive deep into every new mechanic, it gives players their first taste of what’s coming before the full reveal event next month.
One of the biggest announcements is the introduction of the Preseason Breakdown: NBA 2K27 Game Reveal, which will air on 18 August at 6:00 PM BST across Twitch, YouTube, TikTok and X. Rather than revealing features over several weeks, 2K is bringing everything together in one presentation, promising an in-depth look at gameplay, modes and the biggest additions coming to this year’s release.
Among the early gameplay details shared is a brand-new dynamic Dunk Meter. Unlike previous years, the system continuously evaluates defenders throughout the entire dunk animation, from take-off to the finish. Open lanes will reward players with a larger green window, while defenders who recover late can shrink that timing window, making successful dunks feel more skill-based than ever.
Defensive AI has also received attention, with computer-controlled teammates expected to contest shots more effectively and maintain better positioning, particularly in competitive modes such as The REC. This is HUGE for us Rec players, the cheese in 2K26 was bad.
Players who enjoy creating their own superstar will also notice significant changes to the MyPLAYER Builder. The total number of Badges has increased from 40 to 53, including 19 entirely new Badges designed to encourage more varied player builds. Cap Breakers also return, with players now able to preview attribute boosts directly within the Builder before committing to upgrades.
MyTEAM is receiving one of its biggest quality-of-life improvements in years. For the first time, the Auction House will be shared across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, creating a much larger marketplace for player cards. 2K also confirmed that auction winners will receive their cards immediately, removing the previous verification delay.
Franchise fans haven’t been forgotten either. MyNBA introduces several community-requested features designed to better reflect today’s NBA, including salary cap changes based on the league’s latest Collective Bargaining Agreement and the ability to offer No-Trade Clauses during free agency.
Meanwhile, MyCAREER and The City are getting a fresh visual makeover. While last year’s popular city layout remains intact, the environment has been transformed with a new nighttime aesthetic. One of the headline additions is the return of the legendary Rucker Park, recreated as the setting for this year’s MyCAREER prelude story, Fire & Concrete, while also serving as a featured location in Street Kings.
It’s clear that 2K has focused heavily on player feedback this year, with many of the announced features addressing long-standing requests from the community. While there’s still plenty left to reveal, the early preview suggests NBA 2K27 is aiming to refine its core gameplay rather than reinvent it.
The full picture will become clearer during the Preseason Breakdown on 18 August, with Early Access beginning on 28 August for Deluxe and Ultra Edition owners ahead of NBA 2K27’s worldwide release on 4 September for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
