Re:Zero Receives Video Game

By Josh PiedraAugust 26, 2016

5pb. Games, the company behind the hit series Steins;Gate, launched an official website and revealed that they are working on a video game for Tappei Nagatsuki’s Re:Zero light novel. The official title is (and it’s a long one) Re:Zero: Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu -Death or Kiss- (Re:Zero: Life in a Different World from Zero -Death or Kiss-) and does not yet have a release date.  5pb. has also kept silent as to what platform(s) the Re:Zero game will also be playable on. The only thing we received along with the announcement is a couple of key images seen below.

Re:Zero

The story for the Re:Zero light novel was launched in 2012 and since then has eight volumes printed with the latest being released on March 25 by Kadokawa.  The light novel series has over 1 million copies in print since June 2016 and was in the top ten light novels between November 2015 and May 2016. An anime adaptation is current airing in Japan which began during the spring anime season and is scheduled to wrap up within the next four weeks from this posting. There are no North American licenses for the anime just yet, but Crunchyroll is currently streaming the series. A manga adaptation is also currently publishing and Yen Press is distributing both the light novel and the manga here in North America.

MyAnimeList.net describes the story for Re:Zero as follows:

When Subaru Natsuki leaves the convenience store, the last thing he expects is to be wrenched from his everyday life and dropped into a fantasy world. Things aren’t looking good for the bewildered teenager, however: not long after his arrival, he is attacked by some thugs; armed with only a bag of groceries and a now useless cell phone, he is quickly beaten to a pulp. Fortunately, a mysterious beauty named Satella, in hot pursuit after the one who stole her insignia, happens upon Subaru and saves him. In order to thank the honest and kindhearted girl, Subaru offers to help in her search, and later that night, he even finds the whereabouts of that which she seeks. But unbeknownst to them, a much darker force stalks the pair from the shadows, and just minutes after locating the insignia, Subaru and Satella are brutally murdered.

However, Subaru immediately reawakens to a familiar scene—confronted by the same group of thugs, meeting Satella all over again—the enigma deepens as history inexplicably repeats itself.
