Collaborations are something that Gacha games have been doing for a while. It is no big surprise that they do collaborations. It is a surprise, however, when you look at what it is a game collaborates with. One that I was surprised by was Wuthering Waves announcing their collaboration with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
I got a chance to play through the collaboration, and I have a few thoughts on it too.
Bringing Cyberpunk: Edgerunners To Wuthering Waves
Rover gets a message from Mornye about a disturbance near Startorch Academy. Rover immediately heads out and sees a disturbance linked to the Somnoire. The Somnoire is a realm that is attached to the dreams of every realm attached to Solaris-3. After Rover finds their way into the Somnoire, they see some Tacet Discords attacking someone they have never met before, Lucy from the animation series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
The narrative gives us a moment where Lucy and Rover try to figure things out by understanding each other’s perspectives on what happened. After going after the Tacet Discord once again, you meet up with Rebecca, and you get the full picture of what happened from Lucy’s point of view. She gets woken up in this world and gets targeted by the Tacet Discord, and David sacrifices himself to get both Rebecca and Lucy away from it. You will then get to introduce the resonators from Lahai Roi to Lucy and Rebecca. Rebecca and Lynae hit it off immediately. I really loved this aspect of the collaboration, letting other characters meet the Cyberpunk characters. It isn’t just Rover and the Cyberpunk cast; it’s Lahai Roi and them trying to figure out ways to get rid of the problematic frequencies these new Tacet Discords are emitting.

This is where the aspect of this collaboration is more than just a character banner. In previous collaborations in Wuthering Waves, we got cosmetics or soundtracks. This time, not only do we have characters from the collaboration in banners, but we also get a full-fledged story that not only adds more depth to the characters but also adds lore for the game. Wutehring Waves gets infinitely bigger now since we get to see what else gets attracted to the Somnoire. I don’t want to give more spoilers since this is actually a really cool narrative, and seeing the resonators interact with Lucy and Rebecca was a real treat.
What other collaborations and characters can we see while we use the Somnoire?

The New Characters
I didn’t get the best breakdown of the characters, but I did try both Rebecca and Lucy out. I think I preferred my time with Rebecca since gun goes brr is one of my favorite gameplay modes. Lucy’s combat is fast-paced, and she gets a new power with her resonator mark, the ability to hack organics. She can mess with people and use her hacks to dish out damage. I used both of them with Monrye as a support. They both work pretty well on a team. I didn’t try them out considerably enough to figure out what team they are best on, but Monrye is one of the best supports for a reason, and it helps their damage spike up further than on their own.
One aspect that is great, too, is that Lucy’s memories get implemented as sections of the game. Which means you can visit Night City and fight Tacet Discords that look like corpos from the series. You will get a lot of terms that, luckily, get explained in case you don’t know anything about the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series. Rebecca will ask if you want to know about anything they talked about, and if you already know what all the terms mean, you can just skip the explanation.

Animation
In the story, there are several times Lucy is describing scenes from her point of view, and the game changes to a full 2D animated section of the story that looks almost like it came from the show. The storyboarder had a really good way of dynamically placing scenes to make it the most visually interesting, even if the moment wasn’t all that interesting. It constantly shifts camera angles even while Lucy is just lying down. This was just adding a lot of love to the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners property.

My Final Thoughts
Wuthering Waves is breaking new ground with this Cyberpunk: Edgerunners collaboration. It adds more lore to the world that can make the game infinitely more interesting than it already is. We also get to have a nice dynamic of Lucy and Rebecca joining the team at Lahai Roi. These two new resonators are also useful and fun to play. I will admit having different currency for this banner than the other limited banners is a weird decision, but at least that means you don’t have to use up your radiant tides you have been saving on this if you don’t want to pull on the banner. It does suck, though, if you were converting your currency for more tides to summon on this banner specifically, but it isn’t encouraged to convert for tides since the currency for characters and weapons is different. I hope that other collaborations in Wuthering Waves follow suit in letting the characters and worlds be explorable in the future.
Wuthering Waves is available Free-to-play on Windows PC via the official website, Steam (compatible with Steam Deck), and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Mac, and iOS via the App Store and Google Play. Version 3.4, The Dream Not Dreamed, will launch on June 8, 2026
