CD Projekt joint CEO Michał Nowakowski recently took to social media to outline the company’s upcoming plans for The Witcher, including its Gamescom 2026 presence and the targeted release window for The Witcher 4.
The company will bring The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past to Gamescom Opening Night Live, where it will show off the expansion’s dark story and new content. CD Projekt Red will also have a large booth in Hall 8, where attendees can see the first extended look at the expansion. Daily REDstreams are also planned throughout the event, with Nowakowski teasing that the company may have “a surprise or two to share.”
To our beloved fans, players, and community:As we near #gamescom in just a few days, CD PROJEKT RED Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski would like to personally invite YOU to join us there, and hear about the future of The Witcher franchise!
While Songs of the Past will be the focus at Gamescom, development on The Witcher 4 continues at CD Projekt Red’s headquarters. More than 500 developers are working on the new Ciri-led adventure, which Nowakowski described as the company’s “biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.” The game will feature a large open world, action-focused combat, and what the studio hopes will be a deep and impactful story.
The Witcher 4 was officially announced during The Game Awards 2024 with a cinematic trailer that confirmed Ciri as the lead character of the new saga. CD Projekt Red later showed an Unreal Engine 5 technology demonstration in June 2025, but that presentation was intended to highlight the technology behind the game rather than represent finished gameplay.
CD Projekt Red will not show The Witcher 4 during Gamescom, but Nowakowski confirmed that the game is currently targeting a 2028 release window. While that still leaves fans with a lengthy wait, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is scheduled to arrive in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
