The Blood of Dawnwalker is a brand-new vampire open-world RPG from developers Rebel Wolves. The studio is made up of former Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt developers are being supported by publisher Bandai Namco. Today they showed off a ton of new gameplay alongside revealing the release date of September 3rd, 2026.
I’ve been following the game since its original announcement I couldn’t be more excited by what I saw today. The Blood of Dawnwalker looks like it could finally deliver that outstanding vampire RPG that we’ve all been waiting for.
Below you can see the full road to launch event alongside a developer Q&A that followed the show:
They start the show by revealing new gameplay focused on the activities the Coen can do away from the story. In this gameplay we learn several key things including that early in the game you’ll be able to acquire a skill that allows Coen to shapeshift into a wolf at night. This allows for quicker traversal around the world. Then we also find out that unlocking perks is done through the use of manuals which it seems can be found in various locations including enemy camps. However you then have to purchase the perk at a shrine using experience points and potential a time segment.
If you have been keeping up with The Blood of Dawnwalker you’ll know just how precious time is to the experience. Time isn’t just a passive think but its a resource that is required to engage in quests, purchase perks and more. The idea is clearly to add a level of replayability to the game that you wouldn’t get if you could just do everything in one playthrough. While not a completely original concept it is something we rarely see in games and it could really help The Blood of Dawnwalker standout amongst its competition.
One thing I like about the gameplay is the idea that what you do in the open-world actually feeds back into the main story and will impact your experience when trying to take down your enemies.
Of course, gameplay wasn’t the only focus of this showcase, there was also a story trailer which you can check out below:
They also revealed the different edition of the game and there are a few. Firstly, we have two digital editions Standard and Eclipse. Then we have the day one physical edition which comes with some additional goodies, but sounds like it will be a limited print run. Finally we have the collector’s edition, which you can see below:
It didn’t stop there either, for PC players they revealed the system requirements which my colleague Keith Mitchell has covered. You can read all about it here.
