Sea of Stars: Throes of the Watchmaker DLC Launches May 20

A Free, Eight-Hour Post-Game Adventure

One of the most celebrated RPGs of the decade, Sea of Stars, is set to receive a substantial expansion in the form of a brand-new, free DLC adventure titled Throes of the Watchmaker. Releasing on May 20, this post-game content will be available for PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One — completely free for existing Sea of Stars players.

Throes of the Watchmaker picks up after the events of the main campaign, reuniting protagonists Zale and Valere for another magical journey. This time, they find themselves navigating Horloge, a miniature clockwork world crafted by the mysterious Watchmaker — one of the most fascinating characters from the original story and the inventor of the fan-favorite tabletop game, Wheels.

The once whimsical realm is now plagued by a cursed carnival, and survival means learning dazzling new combat skills fit for the center ring. In this imaginative and colorful landscape, Zale trades in his sword to become a juggler, while Valere becomes an acrobat, swapping her staff for agility-based attacks. Together, they’ll also team up with a new party member, the Artificer — a mechanized sharpshooter armed with precision lasers.

Sabotage Studio describes Throes of the Watchmaker as a self-contained, multi-hour bonus quest with its own unique progression system, new classes, combos, and never-before-seen puzzles and enemies. The DLC is designed to be enjoyed after completing the base game, making it ideal for players looking to jump into a New Game+ playthrough or revisit the world ahead of this all-new adventure.

Notably, Sabotage has spared no effort in crafting this expansion. The cinematic budget matches that of the main game, allowing for richly realized story moments and immersive visuals. Players can expect eight hours of new content, delivered with the same care and charm that made Sea of Stars a standout hit.

The DLC also brings with it a fresh score by lead composer Eric W. Brown, with additional tracks contributed by legendary guest composer Yasunori Mitsuda, known for his work on Chrono Trigger. Together, they’ve created a soundtrack that enhances the emotion and wonder of this carnival-themed journey. Just a personal note, I thought that the soundtrack for Sea of Stars was phenomenal! I can’t wait to hear what’s in store for this DLC.

Whether you’re a returning Solstice Warrior or a first-time explorer, Throes of the Watchmaker is the perfect excuse to dive into the world of Sea of Stars all over again.
