If you have played Phasmophobia with your friends, it gets quite easily to get mixed up on who is who. There is not a lot of variety in the player character models. That changes today as Kinetic Games has announced a brand new update for Phasmophobia that includes much more character customization.
One of the biggest changes the major overhaul brings is that players will now have a body. Teammates can now see what their fellow ghost hunters are holding without needing to ask, and players will be able to move through environments in ways that feel more physical.
New animations will also introduce more dynamic, realistic movements and remove quirks – like the bendy backs – for even scarier ghost hunts. Players can expect new death, revival and EMF animations, which were previously teased in Phasmophobia’s 2026 Roadmap.
Interactions have also been enhanced, with unique animations for equipment and objects, for an even more immersive experience. This includes the Journal, which will now feature in-game when used rather than as a separate UI item.
Alongside this, a new item, the player watch, can now also be accessed during investigations via the Journal or when the player’s left hand is empty. It will allow players to monitor sanity levels while also keeping track of time elapsed during a contract.
The update also expands personalisation, with 12 new character models to choose from, each customisable with clothing, hair colour, accessories, and more.
All cosmetics can either be unlocked through gameplay challenges or purchased via the in-game store in the lobby, which will be entirely run on in-game currency, and will have new items added in future updates.
Phasmophobia is available to purchase in Early Access on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
