One of the awkward conversations of the releases of The Legend of Heroes: Trails From Zero and Trails To Azure is where to play it. The NIS America ports did help the conversation considerably, but it still ended with some caveats. Namely, that the PlayStation 4 port was based on an older build that Nihon Falcom already finished for Japan, and that the Nintendo Switch port and PC ports were remastered and had better visual clarity. The Nintendo Switch port, however, has the problem of being a Nintendo Switch port. Either way you slice it, console players had issues with playing these games at their best quality. NIS America has resolved to finally fix this by adding a new port of both games to Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.
Experience the renowned The Legend of Heroes Crossbell duology on modern consoles! Both the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 versions of The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure feature a variety of performance enhancements, including 4k resolution! The Nintendo Switch 2 versions even support mouse input. Each game will be available separately on digital storefronts, and can be purchased together as a physical collection!
I am actually excited to see how these games use the mouse mode on Nintendo Switch 2. Likely that is what I am most interested in these versions. The enhanced visuals and getting all the enhancements in these versions are solid reasons to pick up these games on console now! Both new console versions also support 120 FPS modes as well. This will make turbo mode fly by.
If you need to know where these titles fit into the grand scheme of the Trails series, there is an article on the site that establishes the game order chronologically. The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero and The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Azure will be released on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in Fall 2026. It is currently available for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
