WEBTOON Entertainment Inc., a leading global entertainment company and home to some of the world’s largest storytelling platforms, is bringing Hiromu Arakawa’s seminal manga series Fullmetal Alchemist to WEBTOON fans all over the world. Launching May 7 on WEBTOON’s English-language platform, the iconic series will be available in full color and reformatted for WEBTOON’s vertical scroll format.

Fullmetal Alchemist

Fullmetal Alchemist follows brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, young genius alchemists who attempt to bring their dead mother back to life through the forbidden act of human transmutation. However, the price is too high — the transmutation fails, and Edward loses both his leg and his brother in the process. To save him, Edward sacrifices his arm to transmute his brother’s soul, attaching it to a suit of armor. In the aftermath, the brothers set out on a long journey to reclaim their bodies.

First serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shõnen Gangan magazine from 2001 to 2010, Fullmetal Alchemist has thrilled audiences for over two decades, through its original manga run, two anime series, films, light novels, video games, and more. This new webcomic release marks a major moment for fans of manga and digital comics alike, bringing Fullmetal Alchemist to WEBTOON in full color, reformatted for a digital reading experience that will make the iconic story more accessible and immersive than ever.

“Fullmetal Alchemist is the kind of story that stays with you for life—whether you’ve read the original manga, watched the anime, or found it through its passionate global fandom,” said Yongsoo Kim, Head of Global WEBTOON at WEBTOON Entertainment. “Bringing this iconic series to WEBTOON audiences gives both longtime fans and first-timers a new way to enjoy this story. It’s emotional, it’s intense, and now it’s easier than ever to fall in love with it all over again.”

With its arrival on WEBTOON, Fullmetal Alchemist joins a growing list of brands and franchises making the leap to webcomics. Recent partners include IDW Publishing, DC Comics, Archie Comics, HYBE artists BTS, TXT, and ENHYPEN, Ubisoft, Duolingo, and many more.

Square Enix develops, publishes, distributes and licenses high-quality entertainment content including games for console, PC, mobile, web-browser, and amusement facilities around the world. The company is also engaged in comic publishing and merchandising businesses.
