Has Nintendo Switch Successor Been Delayed To 2025?

By Todd BlackFebruary 16, 2024
Nintendo Switch Successor

Did you listen to the newest episode of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast that went live today? If you did, you’d know that I and my two co-hosts are REALLY tired of all the rumors about the upcoming Nintendo Switch Successor (and Nintendo Directs, but I’ll get to that!) They’re getting out of hand, and they keep changing by the week and month. For example, there was allegedly a presentation planned for March that would fully unveil the new systems, while others were saying that it wouldn’t happen until later this year.

But now, VGC and other outlets are reporting that they have “sources” claiming that the Nintendo Switch Successor won’t be released until Q1 2025! That basically means it won’t come out for an entire year. But why the delay? Well, the VGC sources claim it’s because of hardware and software issues:

One publishing source suggested the delay was so that Nintendo could prepare stronger first-party software for the console.

While obviously, I can’t confirm this is the case, we have said on NEP that the Switch successor needs to have a strong lineup at launch to make the transition between the consoles easier, which is something President Shuntaro Furukawa has said they’re keeping in mind.

But, again, these rumors/reports are unconfirmed by Nintendo, so DON’T take it as gospel until it’s confirmed in one form or another. And no, we don’t know when the Nintendo Direct will be…or if we’re even getting one this month!
