Granblue Fantasy: Relink, released in 2024, became one of my absolute favorite games. It had a unique action combat system that made every character play and feel very unique. It also had a system in place to play with other people online. The expansion Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is finally here, and is it worth the purchase?

Right out of the gate, I do not want to spoil anything, so if you want to find out if the game itself is worth grabbing, read our review of the original game.
Now onto Endless Ragnarok. Granblue Fantasy: Relink ends with you defeating Proto Bahamut and rescuing Lyria and Rolan. Well, the story does at least, there were content updates for three new characters in the form of DLC and a bunch of new quests you could go on to fight harder and harder bosses. The story continues with the crew meeting Seofon and Tweyen, who tell them about the Ragnalia. The Ragnalia are enhanced creatures who are even more powerful than the dragons and godlike creatures you had to fight in the base game. They are tearing up the skydom. They ask you to figure out what is going on and how to stop the Ragnalia.
Stopping Ragnarok
This is where the familiar game loop comes into play. Though one thing to note, there are fewer story missions this time around. Most of the extra content in Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is quests. You will be going to the quest counter constantly to take on new and more difficult quests each time. Odds are, this might be a response to the complaint of not being able to do the story missions in Co-Op. If you don’t have many story missions, and the ones that are in this expansion are much smaller in scope than the ones in the base game, then it won’t feel like a huge detour if you are playing missions with a friend.
Once you finish some quests, you will get a new story cinematic where you either meet someone new or get more information about the Ragnalia. As you finish more and more quests, you will get some memories from the Ragnalia that explore the lore around the Skydom and the world of Granblue Fantasy as a whole.
In my initial review of the base game, one problem I had with the game was how slow and sluggish it felt to start a quest. There was also that cinematic that constantly would play, and you had to watch the whole thing before it let you get into the quest. That cinematic is still here… but you can now SKIP IT! You can also put the loading screen on an auto-skip function that will not leave you hanging on the loading screen because you forgot to press the A button.
What Is Added?
One of the first things I was worried about in Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok was how they were going to handle the prior DLC. The DLC was grindy, and you needed to finish some quests up to 30 times to get the resources to get the character you wanted. The requirement to grab the crewmate card for DLC characters has been greatly reduced. You can also use two normal crewmate cards to grab a DLC character. Ordinarily, that would be weird because the main game was catered specifically to give you the exact number of crewmate cards as characters you could unlock. That has also changed. Thanks to the Conflux.
The Conflux is an anomaly that Rolan is trying to figure out. You can go into the anomaly and try to discover its secrets. As you progress in the base game’s story, you get more of the Conflux you can explore. It is a roguelite mode that will give you sigils, resources, upgrade materials, and even crewmate cards. Rather than needing to grind the same quests over and over again for experience and mastery points, you can now get a lot of those same resources from the Conflux. It is a very smart addition to this game.
In the base game, you can awaken weapons and master nodes to get your stats maxed out. You can also work on your sigils. That has also been improved with the mastery traits and weapon transcendence. Mastery traits use up your mastery points once your character is maxed out to enhance passive effects as well as increase your stats by a pretty wide margin. Weapon transcendence is basically like awakening a weapon, but it increases the stats by a wide margin, as well as creates new nodes in the weapon collection to max out.
Also, there are more Wee Pincers to find in the story maps that become available once you unlock the Endless Ragnarok content. Instead of them being red crabs, though, they are black crabs. Funnily enough, the best thing about adding more crabs to the game isn’t the crab resonance sigil becoming more powerful… It’s the summon you get later on.
One very important role of Lyria in the Granblue Fantasy IP is something that we don’t get to explore often in Relink because of the base game’s story. Now that Lyria is good and well, and the threat of Lilith is erased, we get to see her role as the summoner. Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok adds summons to the game. This is one thing the directors were happy about discussing at the preview event earlier this year.
Lyria Helps In Endless Ragnarok
When the story for Endless Ragnarok starts up, your character, The Captain, asks how Lyria is feeling before she wants to help out with her ability as a summoner. After the game gives you a tutorial on summoning Furycane to help out in combat, the mechanic itself becomes available. Summoning is only allowed, however, on quests that are Chaos difficulty or greater.
When you summon a creature, you become that creature for the allotted time. It can be a monster you have fought prior, or it can even be a group of characters like a brigade or a collection of Wee Pincers. They all have benefits during the summon and even passive effects they give you after the summon is over. You have a gauge on the bottom left that has three bars. Once you use a summon, the price of a summon decreases by one gauge. A three-gauge summon now only costs two. If you use another summon after that, the gauge decreases to a minimum of one gauge to summon. One of the strengths of an icewyrm summon is that it removes vulnerabilities to glaciate. I used it against an icewyrm, and even though the summon itself didn’t do a lot of damage, it let me survive a lot more debuffs. So it does make a difference in the four summons you bring with you to a quest.
That isn’t all that Lyria brings to the table. She also enhances your All-Burst moves. When you finish having all four of your party doing a special burst move that combos after one another, Lyria will summon a final creature to also do a burst move. That burst move does dish out a good chunk of damage, too.
Is It Worth It?
The ultimate question I had for writing the review of Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok is, Is the expansion worth it? I would have to say that all depends on you. If you loved Granblue Fantasy: Relink as much as I did when it came out and wanted more content and more things to do in the world of Granblue Fantasy, then yes. If you are someone who hasn’t tried the game out yet, then absolutely yes. Buy this game with the expansion. That is honestly the best choice anyway since it is $60 for the full thing with the expansion. If you are someone who didn’t like much of the combat of Relink or the world it offered, then I wouldn’t recommend it. If you were sad about just doing quests and wanted more of the actual story of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, then also no. This has some story, but a lot of the expansion is more about the lore of the world than the story of the crew. There aren’t a lot of story segments, as most of the extra content is more features, quests, and things to grind. However, one thing I do need to note, as I talked about in the preview, is that yes, you can play as Rolan. Rolan is a summon you can get in the game. He isn’t a fully playable character, but he is one as a summon.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. It will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 the same day as the new content release, Endless Ragnarok, on July 9, 2026. You can purchase the new content as an upgrade pack on the previous platforms as well.

Granblue Fantasy: Relink – Endless Ragnarok answers a lot of the complaints I had with the base game and adds a ton more to do in the game. If you haven’t played Granblue Fantasy: Relink before, this is the perfect time to get the game and the expansion, as it is still an amazing experience.
