Classic Costumes Coming to Street Fighter 6

By William SchulzJuly 25, 2022

Three of the five characters Capcom has confirmed for Street Fighter 6 are long-standing fan favorites with a lot of appearances to their names.

Ryu, Guile, and Chun-Li are all confirmed to be coming back for next year’s title, and they’ve been given some pretty slick makeovers. I love the new designs, but I’d be lying if I said the old-school designs didn’t have a special place in my heart.

Fortunately, Capcom has my back. In a recent Twitter post, Capcom revealed classic costumes for Ryu, Guile, and Chun-Li, and they are a marvelous merging of what I love about Street Fighter 6‘s visual style and what made these costumes classics.

Street Fighter 6 - Classic Customes for Ryu, Chun-Li and Guile.

Ryu and Chun-Li look more or less like updated versions of the characters we’ve come to know and love over the years, but Guile genuinely frightens me. I knew the “new” Guile was absolutely jacked thanks to his reveal trailer, but I didn’t understand just how jacked he was until that jumpsuit came off and those shoulders came out to play. Talk about getting some buffs, am I right?

Relative newcomer Luke and literal newcomer Jaime, the other two confirmed characters at the time of writing, may not have “classic” looks, but they aren’t being left out.

Capcom also revealed some street-themed alternate costumes for the Metro City duo. I like these looks, aside from Luke’s downright disturbing hat hair. Luke is dressed like a “normal” guy instead of an MMA fighter, and Jaime is sporting some absolutely sick black and yellow.

Street Fighter 6 won’t be in our hands until 2023, but it’s certainly making a strong impression. There are still more characters to be revealed. Hopefully, this news means any returning characters will also receive throwback costumes. Street Fighter has had a plethora of costume options in its more recent entries, and if these are any indication of what’s to come, Street Fighter 6 will be no different.

Street Fighter 6 will be released in 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
