BEENOS Unveils 2024 Global Anime Rankings Based on E-Commerce Demand

By Josh PiedraApril 1, 2025

BEENOS Inc. has unveiled its “2024 Cross-Border E-Commerce × Anime Hit Rankings,” a data-driven list that highlights the international demand for Japanese anime. The rankings are derived from purchasing data gathered by Buyee (https://buyee.jp/), the cross-border e-commerce support service operated by the BEENOS Group, and focus exclusively on anime titles that have aired on Japanese television.

This year’s report includes two separate rankings:

  • A comprehensive ranking of anime titles broadcast in Japan since 1958.
  • A ranking of series that debuted their first season in 2024.

Because the rankings are based on AnimeDB’s catalog of televised anime, some titles—though widely recognized as toys, character brands, or tokusatsu (live-action special effects) franchises rather than traditional anime—are also included. These titles serve as valuable indicators of the global popularity of Japan-originated content.

Ranking Overview: 2024 Cross-Border E-Commerce × Anime Hit Rankings

  • Scope: Anime titles listed as “TV broadcast” in Japan’s official anime database (https://animedb.jp/)
  • Data Source: Purchase volume through Buyee’s overseas proxy shopping service
  • Data Period: January 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024

Top-Ranked Anime Series Since 1958: Global Favorites Still Reign Supreme

BEENOS compiled a global popularity ranking of anime titles that have aired on Japanese TV since 1958. For franchises with multiple seasons, data was consolidated under the overarching series.

Pokémon, Dragon Ball, and ONE PIECE dominated the top three positions, confirming their long-standing appeal among global audiences.

Rising star Chiikawa landed in fifth place, driven by its enormous popularity across East Asia.Sports anime Haikyu!! claimed the ninth spot, fueled by renewed enthusiasm following the release of its feature film.

2024 Debut Anime Rankings: Blue Archive and Kaiju No. 8 Lead the Way

Among anime titles that premiered their first season in 2024, Blue Archive The Animation emerged as the top-ranked new series, demonstrating strong purchase activity across diverse regions.

Kaiju No. 8, which placed third, consistently ranked within the top five in all major regions, underscoring its broad international appeal. Meanwhile, Dandadan, which debuted between October and December 2024, achieved an impressive sixth-place finish despite a short run—signaling rising momentum ahead of its confirmed second season.

Buyee Supports Global Access to Official Japanese Anime Merch
