It wasn’t that long ago that Bandai Namco stirred things up with the reveal of Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online, a brand-new action RPG that will finally give fans something they’ve been asking for; you’ll be able to create your own character and experience the world your way. Now, a new gameplay trailer has dropped, showing off more of the gameplay, and honestly, it’s only made me more excited than I already was.
While this trailer isn’t very long, clocking in at under two minutes, it still gives us a solid look at what’s in store. We get a glimpse of new areas, a closer look at armor and weapons, and even some party-based combat as you take down enemies alongside a few allies.
It wasn’t shown here, but it’s something we’ve talked about before, and it’s easily one of the biggest reasons to check this out. The Death Game Mode returns that high-stakes tension the series is known for, essentially acting as a permadeath mode. No real-world consequences, of course, but if your character dies in-game, that’s it. They’re gone for good.
That’s even more brutal than the classic “You Died” screen from the Souls games & Soulslikes that followed, and somehow that just makes it more appealing. I already know I’m jumping straight into that mode.
If you’re looking to dive deeper into everything we currently know about the game, from its Death Game Mode to how it handles parties, weapons, and its unique take on Aincrad, make sure to check out our full breakdown: No Kirito? No Problem: Everything We Know About Echoes of Aincrad.
Echoes of Aincrad: Sword Art Online is set to release in 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
