Earlier today, Ubisoft finally held an official reveal show for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, but what exactly did they show off? And perhaps more importantly, when is the game releasing?
The first thing we get to see is an intro trailer for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced before being greeted by the host of this reveal, Matt Ryan (Constantine, Legends of Tomorrow), who is returning to what many regard as his breakout role of Edward Kenway.
After previous leaks and speculation, it was quickly revealed that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will release on July 9th, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. The game comes in three versions available for pre-order now: Standard ($59.99), Deluxe ($69.99) and a Collector’s Edition ($199.99).

But what about the gameplay? Well, in the presentation, it was made very clear that this remake is not an RPG and stays true to the core pillars of the original Black Flag. That doesn’t mean there won’t be changes and improvements. Combat has been revamped to make it more free-flowing, but worry not, perfect parries will still allow for the instant kills that longtime fans love. In stealth, you will now be able to crouch at any time, bringing Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in line with more recent Assassin’s Creed games. Naval combat is another area that sees improvement, with new crew members unlocking unique abilities for your ship and more.
Of course, gameplay isn’t the only area of Black Flag that sees improvements in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The game is completely rebuilt on Ubisoft’s latest version of the Anvil game engine, which allows for improved visuals, more dynamic weather, and more. From what I’ve seen so far, it looks like a great upgrade that manages to still replicate the feel of the original.
Rebuilding the game has also given the team at Ubisoft the opportunity to offer additional content such as new music, missions, cutscenes and more. I can’t wait to see what surprises Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has in store for longtime fans like myself.
