Is Mario’s Next Animated Movie Super Mario World?

It certainly teases some things!
By Todd BlackMay 14, 2025
Super Mario World

Without a doubt, one of the biggest hits in theaters in recent years was the Super Mario Bros Movie by Illumination and Nintendo. The movie became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time, making over a billion dollars! The moment it was clear it was a hit, people started to wonder what was next. To that end, as noted by multiple sources, the title for the next film appears to have been leaked. The title of that sequel film is Super Mario World. If you’re a gamer, you know why that name is significant.

First and foremost, the game is revered as one of the best Mario titles ever, and what helped take the 2D side-scrolling platformers of the era to new levels. Second, Super Mario World was the first game to introduce Yoshi! Yoshi was teased at the end of the first film, so it makes sense that the green dinosaur shows up.

According to NBC, the next Mario movie is called:

This could also be a tease for the scope of the new plot. The first movie focused on the Mushroom Kingdom and certain other areas like Rainbow Road. However, the sequel could take things to new regions and really expand the universe and its lore. Hopefully, we’ll hear more about the movie soon!
