The Nintendo Switch Was Unveiled 8 Years Ago Today

Nintendo Switch Successor

Shall we go back in time for a spell? While everyone is looking to the future to see what a certain company will do with its “next big move,” it’s important to honor a gambit they made eight years ago that saved not only them but, arguably, the entire gaming industry. I’m speaking, of course, of the true unveiling and revealing of the Nintendo Switch console. When Nintendo was getting ready to showcase this system and its games, many felt this was The Big N’s “last chance” to make a splash or else fall out of the console game like so many before (and after) them.

However, the Nintendo Switch presentation wasn’t just incredible, it featured a fun look at what the Switch could do, then packed in the showcase with 1st and 3rd party games that many would enjoy for years to come. Zelda, Mario, Xenoblade Chronicles, Splatoon, Fire Emblem, Shin Megami Tensei, and more than a few other surprises lay in wait for them. All of it, of course, culminated in a true trailer for Breath of the Wild, which revealed the release date of both the game and system.

The Nintendo Switch Reveal Presentation was 8 years ago today.

A lot of games were announced that day including Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Octopath Traveler, Fire Emblem Warriors…

They ended it with one of their best trailers for a game that… pic.twitter.com/PEAQ9D5m2t

The gaming space wouldn’t be the same without the OG Switch, and that’s why so many are eagerly anticipating what its successor will do. If time does repeat itself, we might not have to wait that much longer for another epic presentation.
