The Story

The school festival continues as Natsuki tries to get Anna alone; however, the festival is crowded and the gang keeps tailing him! Finally, he loses everyone and heads to the school roof. Could this be the moment we’ve been waiting for?

After that moment passed, it was time to end the festival. Everyone is on breakdown detail when the topic of summer vacation comes up. Everyone is busy; however, there are two days when they can all meet up and do something. Either camping or the pool is the choice but it starts an argument. Meanwhile, Natsuki and Anna meet up at Natsuki’s place for a study session. During the session, everyone decides to go camping.

Once the trip arrives, it’s your typical banter; however, we get a nice little spotlight on Tsuyupon when it’s time for them to go to sleep. He can’t sleep and heads outside to get some fresh air. He’s joined by Keiichi who wants to know what’s wrong. Tsuyupon is thinking about the future and how this could be the last time they hang out. That’s when they realize that graduation is on the horizon and their paths for the future are about to be decided!

Characters

This was quite the volume or character development; however, this section is going to be a bit shorter than usual as it will, essentially, ruin ¾ of the book! Let’s just say that Natsuki finally makes a decision when it comes to Anna. On top of that Keiichi makes a decision as well!

On top of that, we have Tsutsui and Tomoya’s relationship being cute and awkward at the same time. I love how Tsutsui immediately became conscious of her “assets” and immediately felt Tomoya would be better off with out her. That was quite hilarious but that is the great awkwardness that we’ve come to expect from these two!

It’s nice to see Keiichi and Tsuyopon which means someone found the milk cartons and tracked them down! Keiichi playing emcee to one of the festival events was fun but also being the lender of ears to Tsuyopon during the camping trip was a bit unexpected, yet, mature of him. Tsuyopon thinking about the future solidifies him as the most mature out of the four. He was always the level-headed one and always thought about reality… when he was not playing games and watching anime.

Final Thoughts

This was a pretty definitive volume of Rainbow Days. With only three volumes left to go, the series is beginning to wind down; however, it’s not the epilogue we were thinking it would be… at least not yet. Just when you thought all the bows were tied and the gifts were wrapped, we have to take a look at the possible future and what may lie beyond high school for our crew. This volume already showed that Natsuki and Anna were studying for college entrance exams together. Could this mean that our cast will end up in different colleges?

I’m sure this will be the plot point of the next couple of volumes as we head towards the end. Who will stay together, who will split apart, what paths will they take and will they intersect once again? These are the questions that need to be answered and, with the way things ended up in this volume, these are the only questions left to be answered! We’ll see how those answers begin to unfold in Volume 14!
