Tears of the Kingdom Crosses 18.5 Million Sold In Six Weeks

By Todd BlackAugust 3, 2023
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Review, Nintendo Direct

Barring an unbelievably bad title, which we all pretty much knew wouldn’t happen, we knew that The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom was going to be a smash hit on the Nintendo Switch. The question was, “How well would it do compared to its predecessor?” After all, Breath of the Wild broke all sorts of records within the franchise, and its sequel was going to try and do bigger and better than it. The game was a record-setter when it launched, as it sold 10 million units in its first three days.

But now, thanks to the new Nintendo financial data, we know that Tears of the Kingdom has crossed 18.5 million units sold as of June 30th. That means it sold another 8.5 million in the about six weeks since its launch. That’s very impressive. Just as impressive, thanks to its big sales, it’s already the 9th-best-selling title in Nintendo Switch history! One can only imagine how high it will climb.

Many still consider the game the Game of the Year, we’ll have to see if that holds.
