Finish Him! Mortal Kombat 12 in the Works? Netherrealm’s Teaser Sparks Excitement!

Mortal Kombat 12 Tease 1000x563

Earlier today, the Netherrealm / Mortal Kombat team thanked the Mortal Kombat community for 30 years of Mortal Kombat, and it’s a nice, heartfelt thank you. It also made me feel old as heck, as I still remember going to the arcades when they were a thing in the US, and playing Mortal Kombat, and then again at home on the SNES and Genesis (and Sega CD!).

But this video hides a hidden meaning, as you’ll soon see.

At the end of this video, Ed Boon, the co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, also thanked the community and stated that we weren’t done yet. Following this, we see a short animation of what appears to be an hourglass running out of time, with a final piece of sand exploding, and it looks like a big bang, with a new universe and/or timeline being created. Clearly, this is a hint of things to come. However, those who played Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate, you’ll know that there are two endings.

The first ending is where Fire God Liu Kang defeats Shang Tsung, goes back in time, and recruits Kung Lao for the events to come. In the other ending, an empowered Shang Tsung conquers Outworld, Earthrealm, and Netherrealm, with Chaosrealm and Orderrealm being next on the list.

But which Mortal Kombat 11 ending is this teaser referring to? I haven’t the faintest idea, but I would like to see it being a continuation of Shang Tsung’s ending, as I’d like to see a new hero arise and take up the fight against him.

This is the first of many teases to come, but it shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Netherrealm did reveal back in 2021 that it had ended support for Mortal Kombat 11, and was moving on to a new project. Many had assumed that this new project could be either Mortal Kombat 12 or a new Injustice game. With this tease, we now know which game it is.

With Mortal Kombat 12 officially being teased, it’s only a matter of time before Nettherrealm officially reveals the game.
