The ESA confirms that E3 2023 is official canceled

Update: The official E3 Twitter account has officially confirmed that E3 2023 is done. There will be no physical or digital event at all for this year. ”

Reepop and the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) have announced that both the digital and physical events for E3 2023 are cancelled.

Original story below:

Well, that’s all, folks… E3 2023 has officially been canceled, according to IGN’s Rebekah Valentine, who has stated that at least two sources have confirmed this via email. Per this email, it claims that the ESA simply didn’t “garner the sustained interest necessary.”

I suppose I should say I’m not surprised due to how things have been going. First, it was reported that Nintendo and Microsoft had pulled out, followed by Ubisoft, Sega, and Konami; it was only a matter of time before more companies ultimately decided to follow.

To see such a major convention in this industry end up like this, well, it hurts. E3 was something that I looked forward to when I was younger, and I was happy that I was eventually able to attend the event back in 2017. What bothers me is that if this truly is the end of E3, then others in the industry who had always wanted to go will be robbed of that experience.

Sure, there are other gaming conventions that have risen up and have overshadowed E3, while the ESA seems to have dug its own graves for its own gaming event; no matter how you look at it, it’s a bad deal. I had already received confirmation of my E3 admission, and a badge was to be awaiting my arrival and had already started to plan my trip to the West coast. With E3 canceled and highly unlikely that The Outerhaven or myself will be invited to another major West coast convention, it’s disheartening.

The Outerhaven has contacted The ESA and Reedpop for more information regarding E3 2023’s cancelation.
