Berserk Manga Author Kentaro Miura Passes Away

By Josh PiedraMay 20, 2021

UPDATE: It has been determined that Miura had passed away from heart complications.

It has been reported that Kentaro Miura, author of the highly popular manga series, Berserk has passed away at age 54. It is just now being made public information; however, Miura passed away back on May 6.

Berserk first launched back in 1989 and has been running ever since. The series received a TV anime adaptation that ran for 25 episodes from October 8, 1997, to April 1, 1998. The series was met with critical acclaim that left fans wanting a second series. That second series wouldn’t come until July 1, 2016… nearly 18 years later. Due to the poor CG animation, the sequel fans have desired didn’t exactly garnish positive reactions.

Despite the poor second season, Berserk remains one of the most popular manga of all time. It holds a mean score of 9.36 on MyAnimeList which is good enough to make it the #1 ranked manga on the site, beating on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and One Piece.

We here at The Outerhaven join the anime and manga world in mourning the passing of Kentaro Miura. We hold him and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
