The Ultimate Optimus Prime Toy Has Been Created And I Want It

By Keith MitchellApril 9, 2021

I’m a big kid; I’m sure many of you already know this. I like my anime, video games, Gundam, and more specifically, I freaking LOVE TRANSFORMERS. I have ever since the OG Transformers cartoon aired on TV decades ago and when my Father took me to Toys “R” Us to purchase my very first Optimus Prime. I’ll never forget that or him.

Needless to say, when I saw the news of a self-transforming Optimus Prime toy that Hasbro is selling and created by Robosen Robotics. I had to check it out. If you’ve never heard of Robosen, this company has been creating similar items such as this one, but now they’re working with the Transformers license.

Yes, I said self-transforming. As in, you can relive all your Optimus Prime fantasies or just by saying “Autobots, Roll Out!” over and over. This toy comes with 80 different sound effects and is voiced by none other than Peter Cullen. It even makes the signature transforming sounds! Now you won’t have to make those sounds yourself anymore. Or maybe you can keep doing it; I won’t judge you.

Standing 19 inches tall, and possess 5000 components, 60 microchips, and 27 servo motors, with built-in speakers and 2 microphones. This toy is just as complex as an actual Transformer. That is, if they actually existed in real life.

You’ll control Optimus Prime via an Apple iPad/iPhone or Android tablet or smartphone via an app, or you can use the built-in voice commands. Also, there are quite a few commands that come standard, with the ability to program your own customized commands and actions.  The more I hear about this toy, the more I want it.

The downside to all of this is the sticker shock. This baby is priced at $700, and it isn’t something that most people will be able to drop the cash on. It’s also a limited edition, meaning this won’t be around for long. And should you miss out on your chance to own one and then change your mind, you’ll be at the mercy of eBay or another marketplace. However, for the Transformer fan that wants it all, this is calling your name. I’m already trying to justify picking one up for myself. Though I’m sure that will never make it past my wife, one can try, though.

Update: Surprisingly, the wife said I could get it. I’m guessing this is a super early Christmas present for myself. Expect plenty of pictures and a review once I take possession of my very own semi-sentient Optimus Prime later this year.
