Marvel’s King of Chaos Returns in ‘Loki’ Trailer

By Sara Roncero-MenendezApril 5, 2021
Loki Season 2

Back when The Avengers came out, Loki was THE villain. His propensity for chaos matched with that suave British tone paired with some very stylish costuming choices skyrocketed him to fame. So it really was only a matter of time until he got his own show.

Loki follows the titular god as he gets capture by the Time Variance Authority. See, when he picked up the Tesseract during Avengers: Endgame, he messed up the timeline. As a result, the timekeepers need his help to make it right. At first, he will be watched over by a caseworker of sorts, but quickly, it seems, he’ll find a way to break out and cause havoc. There’s lot of cool fantasy settings, big fight scenes, and of course, all the snark we can handle.

Of course, this isn’t the same Loki who has undergone all of the emotional growth through the other phases of the MCU. This Loki has just had his ass handed to him by the Avengers for the first time, meaning we’re getting full villain Loki. You have to wonder if Marvel is trying to capitalize on the popularity of the character that exploded post-Avengers, or if they just saw a golden opportunity during Endgame.

Tom Hiddleston returns to reprise his role as Loki, with Owen Wilson playing his caseworker Mobius M. Mobius and Gugu Mbatha-Raw as one of the higher-ups in the TVA. The cast also includes Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, and Erika Coleman.

Loki will premiere on Disney+ on June 11, 2021.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
