PC Version of Monster Hunter Rise Confirmed by Capcom

While it was originally leaked that Monster Hunter Rise was going to head to the PC, following the Nintendo Switch release. Capcom has officially announced that the game will be released, and just like Monster Hunter World, the PC version of MH: Rise will be released nearly one year later, in 2022.

In an interview with Fanbyte, Monster Hunter Rise producer (Ryozo Tsujimoto) and director (Yasunori Ichinose) confirmed that the PC version’s existence. It’s also worth mentioning that the Monster Hunter Rise website now has a “Coming to Steam” logo. A quick check over at Waybackmachine.org, we can see that this was added as of Feb. 26th, 2021.

Monster Hunter Rise Coming to Steam

According to the interview, while Monster Hunter Rise is currently being developed for the PC, we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon. Currently, the Nintendo Switch version is the priority, so all resources are devoted to that version. As the official website states, we’ll see the Steam version sometime in early 2022. For those who followed Monster Hunter World’s PC port, you’d know that the PC version wasn’t released 7 months after the console versions. 

So while we don’t have anything info regarding the PC port of the game, at least not from Capcom officially, we do have what was leaked in the massive Capcom data leak. This was the same leak that only brought the PC version of Monster Hunter: Rise to light, but also Resident Evil 4 coming to Oculus VR, the Resident Evil 8 Village release versions, the Ace Attorney collection for the PS4 and Switch, and Street Fighter 6.

  • Regarding frame rate, 30FPS limit, 60FPS limit, FPS fluctuation (essentially no upper limit) option
    By adding an upper limit of 144 and 165 as a bonus, it corresponds to two specifications of currently popular monitors. According to the feeling of CES held in January, it is expected that 240Hz (240FPS) monitors will become popular in the future.
  • Note: PC games PC games support variable refresh rate modes such as G-SYNC and Free Sync (no extra coding required)
  • Monitor output resolution
    Allows you to output any resolution according to your monitor / Windows environment
    Do not hard-code the output resolution or limit it to 720p (Switch handheld mode) or 1080p (docking mode)
  • Input / output device optimization
  • Key binding / customization, mouse input optimization using direct input (avoid analog stick emulation)
  • UI navigation via mouse / keyboard
  • Fine-tune / options for baseline graphics and video output performance
  • Texture filtering, antialiasing, anisotropic filtering, shadow quality options, V-sync ON / OFF.
  • The game should support full screen, window mode, and borderless window mode
  • 21: 9 (ultra wide) and other graphics related support

Seeing how this was all leaked, along with the existence of the game, which is now confirmed, there’s a good chance this is legit. 

As to why Capcom would bring Monster Hunter: Rise would make its way to the PC, why wouldn’t they? Monster Hunter World did great across the board, but it did extremely well on the PC. The PC versions (base game and Iceborne) outsold the game’s console versions in every region, except for in (PS4). There also may be an exclusive deal that keeps the game on the Switch but forbids it from being made available on any other console. 

Monster Hunter Rise for the Nintendo Switch releases on Match 26th, 2021. Capitalizing on Monster Hunter World’s success, Monster Hunter Rise looks to be another amazing addition to the series. However, after playing the demo one Switch version, I’m not 100% sure that I’ll be picking up the game. And now that we know that the PC version is coming, I may end up holding out even if it is nearly a year away. But being the Monster Hunter fan that I am, I may end up double-dipping.
