Kid Icarus Uprising Sequel Would Be “Difficult” According To Sakurai

By Todd BlackMarch 22, 2021
Kid Icarus, Kid Icarus Uprising

Nintendo has been doing a really good job in the Nintendo Switch era of bringing out all of its major franchises to bear in one form or another. Yes, we’ve had a slew of Mario and Zelda titles, but we’ve also had Splatoon, Luigi’s Mansion, Animal Crossing, the upcoming return of Pokemon Snap, Xenoblade Chronicles, and more. But one franchise that hasn’t been on the Switch outside of a Smash Bros inclusion is Kid Icarus. The one-time mainstay of Nintendo in its early days hasn’t had a dedicated title since Kid Icarus Uprising on the 3DS, and fans have been begging for more from producer Masahiro Sakurai.

Sakurai has heard these cries, and in an anniversary tweet for Kid Icarus posted that he gets many requests for a Kid Icarus Uprising sequel or a “remake” and noted that it would be “difficult”.

続編やリメイクを望む声を多くいただいているのですが、難しいでしょうねー…

Now, “difficult” doesn’t mean impossible as we all know, and the Nintendo Switch has proved itself to handle all sorts of big and powerful titles in its own right. The real question is about time. Right now, Sakurai’s focus is 100% on the remaining DLC characters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate, so he probably can’t do a Kid Icarus title right now due to that. But in the near future when the final two characters are done? Who knows?
