Hugh Grant and Regé-Jean Page Join Cast of Dungeons & Dragons Movie

By Andrew AgressMarch 3, 2021
Dungeons and Dragons

The upcoming Paramount Dungeons & Dragons movie has received quite the star-studded cast. The latest actor to join the project is Hugh Grant, who will be playing the antagonist of the film. While primarily known for romantic comedies such as Love Actually and Four Weddings and a Funeral, Grant has a wide-ranging career including everything from family film Paddington 2 to horror flick The Lair of the White Worm. Also confirmed is Regé-Jean Page, who has had several TV roles including those in For the People and Waterloo Road, but is most known lately as the star of the hit Netflix period piece Bridgerton.

Jonathon Goldstein and John Francis Daley, who directed Game Night, will direct the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons film, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Perhaps it’s fitting that the directors of a film about holding a game night will direct a film adaptation of a fantasy role-playing game that’s popular at game nights. This won’t be the first D&D movie, as three others were already made of the Wizards of the Coast game, beginning with Dungeons & Dragons in 2000, starring Marlon Wayans and Jeremy Irons. However, the latest film set for 2022 may just have to roll a 20 to find success, as the previous films have not done well.

Or, aside from a critical roll, perhaps critical roles filled by a stellar cast can help the film. In addition to Hugh Grant and Regé-Jean Page, the upcoming movie will feature Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and Sophia Lillis. Dungeons & Dragons will arrive on May 27th, 2022, after Paramount pushed the date back from November of this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But hey, if you’re looking for a good quarantine activity, playing a game of D&D just might help hype you up for the film.

Andrew comes from the majestic land of New Jersey (the part that doesn't smell). A big fan of sketch comedy, he writes and performs it whenever possible. He gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
