There’s an Official Favorite Pokemon Poll and the Results are Wild

By Andrew AgressFebruary 21, 2021

This Saturday will mark the 25th anniversary of Pokemon. To celebrate the occasion, the official Pokemon Day website has created a poll for fans to vote for their all time favorite Pokemon. So finally, we’ll be able to find out which Pokemon is the very best, like no one ever was.

You might have some guesses already as to who the current top Pokemon is. It’s small, shaped like a mouse, and shoots electricity out of its cheeks. Got it? That’s right. It’s Dedenne!

What? Don’t remember Dedenne? Come on. It’s only one of the top five electric mouse Pokemon in the game!

So it may be surprising to some that this Generation VI knockoff of Pikachu has currently claimed the top spot in the poll, but the whole current roster is an absolute free-for-all. As of the time of writing, Cinccino has the number two slot and Snivy is coming in at number three (actually, one of my favorites). Pikachu has the eighth slot, so… at least it’s in the top ten.

In case you’re wondering how it works, Siliconera explains that people can only vote by Twitter, and must use the Japanese name for the Pokemon they’re voting for. So essentially, the results are skewed towards Twitter users and those who speak Japanese. But still, the poll is official and it is serving up some interesting choices. For anyone who doubted that Sliggo the slime dragon was anyone’s favorite Pokemon, it is currently at number 24. If nothing else, the list proves that every Pokemon is someone’s favorite.

If you’d like to take part in this chaos, you have until Pokemon Day on February 27th. The results will be announced at a later date. Currently, over 400,000 people have voted, but with 46,000 of those votes going to Dedenne, it may be hard to knock the Pikachu knock-off from its throne.
