Star Wars Announces Several New Shows for Disney+, Including ‘Ahsoka’

By Sara Roncero-MenendezDecember 10, 2020

Star Wars fans got a major holiday gift today — Disney+ is expanding its stories in a galaxy far, far away. Today, they announced nine new shows for their lineup.

Of the most anticipated shows, there’s Ahsoka, a live-action solo series starring Rosario Dawson as the titular character that takes place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian. There’s also Obi-Wan Kenobi, the solo series that will see Ewan McGregor returning to the role, as well as Hayden Christensen returning as Anakin/Darth Vader.

There is also a trailer for Andor, following Rebel spy Cassian Andor in his missions before the events of Rogue One.

There’s also Lando, a new Lando Calrissian event series, from Justin Simien, who created Dear White People. Rangers of the New Republic is another live-action show also set in the timeline of The Mandalorian. Leslye Headland, creator of Netflix’s Russian Doll, is working on a mystery-thriller called The Acolyte, set in the last days of the High Republic, and in “a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers.”

Patty Jenkins, best known for Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984 will be creating a show for LucasFilm entitled Rogue Squadron:

There’s also a ton of animated show to. First off, there’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which will follow a group of rogue Stormtroopers from The Clone Wars show.

Star Wars: Visions will be a show featuring animated shorts from talented Japanese anime creators. There will also be an animated film, Star Wars: A Droid Story that will feature R2-D2 and C-3PO.

They also confirmed that Taika Waititi is working on a feature of some kind but there are no more details available.

All of these shows will be hitting Disney+ within the new two years or so.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
