BEJOY PS5 DualSense Controller Charging Station Review

Let’s face it, when it comes to finding accessories for the PlayStation 5, it’s rough out there. Between the low stock arriving in stores and having to fight scalpers who’re out for a quick score, it’s the gamers who are suffering.

One such accessory that has been out of reach has been the official PlayStation 5 DualSense charger. I’ve checked multiple stores, and it’s either back-ordered or will arrive with several weeks, instead of being able to grab it quickly. So I started looking around for alternative DualSense charger solutions, with one of those being the BEJOY PS5 DualSense Controller Charging Station. I’ve found this on Amazon, fairly cheap, and offered everything I needed to charge my DualSense controllers, So I took a chance with it and came away impressed.

Funny enough, Amazon stated it would take a few days to get to me, even with Amazon Prime. But it arrived much sooner than expected, which allowed me to see if this charger was worth the asking price.

What’s inside the package?

Inside the box were the BEJOY DualSense charger, 3-foot USB Type C Cable, and some instructions. There was no charging block included, which I found disappointing, and I wish companies would stop assuming consumers already have readily available charging blocks or space USB ports. Sure, most of us do, but an extra charging block doesn’t hurt.

The charger has two USB Type C port nubs that fit inside the DualSense controller and is used when the controller rests on the charger. These nubs sit snuggly and require force to remove them; they won’t come out any other way. They protrude a bit while attached to the controller, but not so much that it looks unsightly.

Placing the DualSense controllers into the charging station is simple; lower it over the inserts and press down. You place the controller over the USB port and drop it down. Since my unit was new, I initially had to use some force, but now it just drops right in. Once it’s connected, I was able to lift on the controller, and the entire station was lifted as well. The controller does wobble side to side if you shake the charging station, but the controller isn’t coming out of it unless you want it out.

The charging station won’t win any contests for being the best-looking device, but that doesn’t matter. Construction-wise, it is very sturdy and will survive a few trips of being dropped. I also attempted to bend it, but thankfully was unable to.

Does it work?

When it comes to chargers, we only charge about several things; how long will it take to charge my controllers, and will it cause any damage. Taking a DualSense Controller with a low battery, it took a little under three hours to charge it back up to 100%. While charging, the LEDs on the charger’s front changed from green (default) to red (charging), then back to green when the controller was fully charged.

But what about any possible damage to my controller? According to BEJOY, there’s a circuit that monitors for any overcharging and overheating, which is in place to keep any damage from occurring. This circuit also prohibits a controller’s charging when it isn’t needed. If you attempt to place a controller with a battery life of 80% or more, it won’t be charged. This is due to the protection that’s baked into the charger. It wasn’t until a few hours of playtime when the battery dropped to half of the battery life that I could charge the controller again. Meaning, there’s definitely something in the charger protecting the controller and the battery.

That certainly gave me some peace of mind. These DualSense controllers aren’t cheap, at $70 a pop, and the last thing I wanted was to have them being shorted out due to crappy electronics. With what I’ve observed and what I know about this charger, I’m fairly confident about using it.

Overall Thoughts

While the BEJOY DualSense Charging Station is barebones, it is a solid charger. With room for two DualSense controllers, a fast-charge ability that gets you back up and running in about four hours, and inexpensive, there’s much to like here. It’s a viable alternative to the official charger, at a lower price.
