New animated series ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ heads to Disney Plus in 2021

By Keith MitchellJuly 13, 2020

During Season 7 (the final season) of ‘Star Wars: Clone Wars‘, viewers were introduced to a new squad of clones, called the “Bad Batch”. It was an interesting union and I enjoyed the new style of characters and learned to love them.

The reason for this name is that they were an unusual group, as they were made up of “defective” clone troopers, that were bestowed with some unique abilities. Think of them as the Star Wars universe equivalent of mutants from ‘X-Men‘. Honestly, I loved the episodes with them in it and was saddened when they were no longer part of the show. Thankfully, Disney must have thought the same as they’ve announced a new animated series devoted to them with ‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch‘.

The cavalry has arrived! @StarWars: The Bad Batch, an all-new animated #DisneyPlus Original Series from Lucasfilm, will debut in 2021. Get all the details: https://t.co/w7EU4Y4q91 pic.twitter.com/coXSfQuv7S

This new series will feature the Bad Batch and will be released in 2021, exclusively on Disney’s streaming service, Disney Plus. While we don’t know much about this new series, we do know that thanks to the summary that this series will follow the events from Star Wars: Clone Wars.

Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of Star Wars: The Clone Wars has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+.  “While The Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning.

This new series will also have some familiar faces in Dave Filoni, Brad Rau, Jennifer Corbett, and Athena Portillo as executive producers. With Carrie Beck as co-executive producer and Josh Rimes as Producer. All of which have had their hands on several Star Wars properties, so not to worry, Star Wars: Bad Batch is in good hands.

I’m looking forward to this new animated series, especially since Clone Warriors is quickly coming to a close and there’s no word on if Disney will the revisit ‘Star Wars: Rebels’ series (but they really need to!). Look for the Bad Batch sometime in 2021!
