PlayStation’s Jim Ryan confirms the PS5 will launch this Holiday 2020

PlayStation 5 live event june 4th 2020

With the COVID-19 pandemic pretty much either delaying or cancelation the gaming events that we’re used to seeing, many had worried that this would also affect the console launch of the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. Now while Microsoft has already stated that they won’t delay their console, Sony has finally followed suit. Per the CEO and President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, PlayStation hasn’t changed their launch plans for this shopping holiday 2020.

According to an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Ryan confirms that not only will the PlayStation 5 launch this year, but Sony’s next-generation console will also see a global launch as well. As for the first-party exclusive titles, they’ll also be by the time the PS5 launches Q4 2020.

“We are going to get The Last of Us Part II out at the end of next month, and we’re going to get Ghost of Tsushima out the month after that. And both with only small delays. And really, they were delays that were born out of complete uncertainty about the distribution scenario when we had to pull the trigger. It was like the world was heading into this big black hole, and we didn’t know whether the internet would be working, we didn’t know whether warehouses would be able to operate. So we took the cautious approach. But the games are ready to go and we are feeling really good about them.

“And finally, the people who make games. We, and our partners, seem to be coping really well. And so we are on track. We are going to launch this holiday and we’re going to launch globally. We’re really looking forward to it and it’s going to be a blast. – Jim Ryan PlayStation CEO and President”

So there you have it. If you were considered about the PlayStation 5 being delayed, like we were, you can put that out of your mind. Jim Ryan is fully confident that this year the PS5 will have a healthy launch and will see several first-party and third-party games ready to go as well.

Now, all we need is to see the PlayStation 5 in action and a price, so we can start collecting our pennies. Both of which we may see during the PlayStation 5 Livestream that will take place on June 4th, 2020, at 1 PM PST / 4 PM EST. During this 1.5 hour event, we’ll see several PlayStation 5 first-party titles, and with a little hope, the console as well. So far all we’ve seen from PlayStation 5 is the DualSense controller, which looks darned sexy if you ask me.
