Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-reconing Coming Summer 2020

By Conner BJune 5, 2020

A return of a cult classic

A cult classic RPG Kingdoms of Amalur is finally getting a remaster. First leaking on the Microsoft Store, THQ Nordic later re-opened the old Reckoning twitter account and confirmed the remaster with the following tweet:

The rumours are true! Prepare for a Re-Reckoning, because Kingdoms of Amalur is coming back.

Remastered with stunning visuals and refined gameplay, it's soon time to experience an epic RPG journey and all its DLCs like never before.#KingdomsOfAmalur #ReReckoning pic.twitter.com/MlpSCTrjPe

THQ Nordic also cheekily responded to the leak with a tweet from their own account saying “Kingdom of… what? Never heard of it.” For many fans of the game, myself included, the idea of Kingdoms of Amalur coming back with a shiny new coat of paint is some great news as this title never got the appreciation it deserved on release.

Releasing back in 2012 Kingdoms of Amalur was met with a good critical reception but ultimately overshadowed by the controversy that developer 38 studios found themselves involved in, stories of bankruptcy and court charges brought up due to missing money and financial mishandling were front and center.

Additional leaks about the game have also come to light with the collector’s edition appearing on Amazon which was also a surprise to the people over at THQ Nordic asking for links to the specific amazon that was showing the edition.

While it’s never fun when your carefully laid plans for an announcement are upended by a leak it seems that THQ Nordic is taking this all in good humour and rolling with it. While the release date is still a little up in the air the date put forward by the leak was August 11th and was later changed to August 18th so it’s likely we’ll see Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning later this year.

Update: There’s also a collector’s edition of the game that was announced and is currently available for pre-order. The Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning Collector’s Edition is available for the PS4, Xbox One and PC, priced at $99.99 and includes the following;

Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning Collector's Edition

  • Copy of the Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning
  • Alyn Shir 8.2 inch collectible statue
  • Amalur Keychain
  • Physical Soundtrack
  • 5x Cards with Artwork
  • Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning CE box

The resident Brit of Outerhaven, however, don't expect refinement from me as I swear like a sailor and I will die on the hill I chose to fight on.
