Destiny 2: Beyond Light will support free upgrades, 60FPS for PS5 and Xbox Series X

By Keith MitchellJune 9, 2020

PS5 and Xbox Series X 60FPS Destiny 2 goodness

While Bungie had already mentioned that Destiny 2 would make its way over to both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, there were still some questions regarding this. Would it support 60 FPS? Would we have to pay for it all over again? Well, thanks to June 9th’s Destiny 2 Livestream, we now know about Bungie’s plans for the next-generation consoles.

First up, Bungie will support both Xbox’s Smart Delivery and will also provide free updates to the PlayStation 5 if you already own Destiny 2. Once you get your new shiny consoles, you won’t have to worry about paying to upgrade as both consoles will get free upgrades. While we were already sure about Smart Delivery, seeing how PlayStation didn’t have anything similar announced we weren’t sure. So it’s nice to know that PlayStation fans won’t be left in the dark.

Now, let’s talk about the framerate. Bungie has confirmed both consoles will support 60 FPS. No more 30 frames per second that many of you have dealt with on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. We went back and listened to the video, it will indeed be  4k 60FPS for both consoles. That’s impressive and a far cry from the current generation of consoles.

There was some mention about cross-play and while they touched on it, they’re still working on this. The plan is to get PlayStation, Xbox, PC and yes, even Stadia all with cross-play enabled. Don’t expect it this year, as it is still a ways away. Maybe sometime in 2021, hopefully.

There’s lots more to talk about, so expect a recap of Bungie’s Destiny 2 Livestream later on today; both on Beyond Light and future expansions, and more. But for now, we got some new info for the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.

Are you excited about the news? Let us know in the comments!
