Justice League Dark Series Coming To HBO Max From JJ Abrams

Justice League Dark

Even with all the darkness filling the world via the CoronaVirus, there are still some things to look forward to. Including the upcoming release of HBO Max, which is aiming to be a big rival to things like Netflix and Disney+. The thing that really separates HBO Max from other things though is that they’re going to have access to various DC Comics properties, and now, that will include a Justice League Dark series.

As noted by Variety, the series will headed by JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot team. Beyond that we honestly don’t know too much about the series, but it’s going to join another set of DC Comics shows being on HBO Max like Green Lantern, and others.

“What an amazing start to our association with the wildly imaginative Bad Robot team under J.J. and Katie [McGrath],” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer of HBO Max and president of TNT, TBS, and truTV. “What could be better than an original J.J. idea and then Warner Bros. letting them loose on iconic I.P. from Stephen King and the DC Universe and to provide more must-have programming on HBO Max.”

For those who don’t know, the Justice League Dark was a variation of the Justice League that was born out of the New 52 line of books. It featured John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Etrigan, Orchid, Swamp Thing, and others throughout the series. A new version is in the DC Comics line now and is headed up by Wonder Woman. An animated film was later made that featured Batman alongside the team, and a movie was set to be made by Guillermo Del Toro but it never came to fruition.

The HBO channel would allow the series to embrace the darker nature of the books, including the uses of dark magic and body horror. The question of casting though is key, especially since there’s already a John Constantine in live-action via the Arrowverse in the form of Matt Ryan, who also voiced John Constantine in all the animated features.

Regardless, for fans of the comic, this might just be their chance to see this team form for the first time in live-action.
