DOOM Eternal’s updated PC recommended specs are nightmarish

By Keith MitchellMarch 10, 2020
doom eternal e3 2019

A few days ago, Bethesda listed and then pulled the PC specs for the follow-up to DOOM (2016), DOOM Eternal. Today, they posted the updated specs on its DOOM Eternal website and while some of the specs are similar for 1080p gaming. They added a higher range of resolutions and they aren’t tame at all. Now we can see what it takes to play the game at the highest resolutions and truth be told, these requirements are PC melting. Like, you’re gonna watch as the flames of hell come spewing out of your PC as the melted plastic and steal runs off your desk.

But don’t take my word for it, check them out for yourself. Take notice of the PC Ultra-Nightmare Specs.

PC Minimum Specs (1080p / 60 FPS / Low Quality Settings)
  • 64-bit Windows 7/64-Bit Windows 10
  • Intel Core i5 @ 3.3 GHz or better, or AMD Ryzen 3 @ 3.1 GHz or better
  • 8GB System RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce 1050Ti (4GB), GTX 1060 (3GB), GTX 1650 (4GB) or AMD Radeon R9 280 (3GB), AMD Radeon R9 290 (4GB) or RX 470 (4GB)
  • 50 GB hard drive space
PC Recommended Specs (1440p / 60 FPS / High Quality Settings)
  • 64-bit Windows 10
  • Intel Core i7-6700K or better, or AMD Ryzen 7 1800X or better
  • 8GB System RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8GB), RTX 2060 (6GB) or AMD Radeon RX Vega56 (8GB)
  • OR (1080p/ 60 FPS / High Quality Settings) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB), NVIDIA GeForce 970 (4GB), AMD RX 480 (8GB) Note : On GTX 970 only – set Texture Quality to Medium
  • 50 GB hard drive space
PC Ultra-Nightmare Specs (2160p / 60 FPS / Ultra-Nightmare Settings) OR (1440p / 120 FPS / Ultra-Nightmare Settings)
  • 64-bit Windows 10
  • Intel Core i9-9900K or better, or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X or better
  • 16GB System RAM
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti (11GB) or AMD Radeon VII (16GB)
  • 50 GB hard drive space

Yikes! Double Yikes! The final spec requires some super-duper processing power, as well as access to either Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon VII. Damn, that’s the highest requirement spec that I’ve for a game, ever. I’m sure that takes some kind of record. To put this in perspective, there aren’t many out there who have that sort of setup. Sure, I do, but I put money into my PC instead of more important things, so don’t be like me.

As for how the game plays, I had some time with the game during PAX East 2020 and I couldn’t put the game down. Well, I had to cause I couldn’t hog the kiosk, but if I could have, I would have stayed on the game all day. Looks like I’m putting in some sick day time very soon.

DOOM Eternal releases for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on March 20, 2020. Get ready to go to hell, I sure am!
