THQ Nordic acquires developer Gunfire Games

By Keith MitchellAugust 14, 2019

It’s official! THQ Nordic has acquired Gunfire Games, mostly notable for their work on Darksiders III and more recently the upcoming Remnant: From the Ashes.

THQ Nordic expects to recoup its entire investment within four years based on Gunfire's current projectshttps://t.co/XlwIdNqfFI

While THQ and Gunfire Games have cross paths in the past, the studio was an independent one. That all changes with this. As part of the acquisition, THQ will also own all of the  IPs from Gunfire Games. Which makes me wonder what exactly is going to happen with Remnant: From the Ashes, which launches in a few days.

“With the acquisition of Gunfire Games, we are strengthening THQ Nordic’s footprint in the US, and are adding an experienced and talented development team that we know very well from having collaborated on Darksiders” “Gunfire will contribute with premier development expertise to the group with realizable synergies from day one. It is with great anticipation of future projects we now welcome the team to the THQ Nordic family.” — THQ Nordic CEO Lars Wingefors.

I’d imagine that THQ wants to get development started on Darksiders 4. Which makes sense to bring the studio in-house, versus doing a contract instead. At the same time, this would allow Gunfire Games to work and provide for their staffing without wondering where the next paycheck is coming from.

My only concern is how much freedom will they have now they’re under the THQ umbrella.
