Square Enix Confirms Final Fantasy 7 Remake Is Exclusive To PS4

By Keith MitchellJuly 11, 2019

So, it’s not coming to any other platforms?

After yesterday’s “claim” that Final Fantasy 7 Remake was coming to other platforms, Square Enix has put the kibosh on that.

According to Square Enix via Video Games Chronicle, this was a mistake and that the title isn’t coming to other platforms.

Square Enix says it has “no plans” to release Final Fantasy VII Remake on platforms other than PlayStation 4.

Since then, Xbox Germany has apologized and claimed that this was a mistake on their part. To which I ask, how can you edit a video and call it a mistake? Did anyone not do any sort of research or fact checking?

It actually happened yes. In that video were multiple FF games and the remake happened to be in there by mistake from the editorial team where we didn´t check the exclusitivity on the specific one. We make sure this doesn´t happen again.

So the question of the hour is, is this actually the case? Square Enix has been known to tell us one thing and then eventually change their minds after a while. Remember when Final Fantasy XV ( Final Fantasy Versus XIII) was announced? Sure it was a PS3 exclusive game originally. Then it turned into a PS4 exclusive game, which later also was announced for the Xbox One. Then after a while, it got re-released on to the PC as the Windows Edition – Final Fantasy XV. Of course, that’s just one example. Nier Automata (PS4/Xbox One/PC), World of Final Fantasy (PS4/Xbox One/PC/Switch), with Octopath Traveller being the most recent (Switch/PC).

This is not the first time Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s exclusivity has been in question. There have been multiple sources citing that this is a timed-exclusive. Meaning the title could be released on other platforms. Even the press released I received from Square Enix also confirms this, citing that it will release first on the PS4.

At the FINAL FANTASY VII: A Symphonic Reunion orchestra concert in Los Angeles, SQUARE ENIX® unveiled that the highly anticipated FINAL FANTASY VII® REMAKE will debut first on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system on March 3rd, 2020.

But I’m sure you get where I’m coming from. This could be 100% legit, or it just could be Square Enix’s way of telling us that they’re just focused on the PS4 release first. Either way, we’ll find out a few years from now I’m sure.

For now, Final Fantasy 7 Remake will release on the PS4 on March 3rd, 2020.
