Crunchyroll Announces Partnership with Twitch Prime

By Josh PiedraMay 15, 2019
Crunchyroll

It was announced today by Crunchyroll that they had teamed up with gaming streaming service Twitch to offer up a promotional 30 free days of anime if you are a member of the Twitch Prime subscription service!

This marks a historic moment as the 30-Day free pass on Crunchyroll will be the first time in history that non-gaming related loot will be made available through Twitch Prime. Twitch did hold anime streaming marathons in the past in addition to streaming marathons of Power Rangers, Mr. Rogers Neigborhood, and The Joy of Painting. Twitch’s roots in geek culture make Crunchyroll a perfect match for them with this Twitch Prime offer!

“While we constantly focus on delighting Crunchyroll fans, we also feel it’s our responsibility to continue to proliferate the popularity of anime to new audiences,” said Eric Berman, head of partnerships, Crunchyroll. “We pride ourselves on working with like-minded, fan-focused partners and are excited to offer all Twitch Prime members a free pass to Crunchyroll right in time for the huge spring anime season.”

This offer only strengthens Crunchyroll’s partnership with Twitch. In the past, Twitch has teamed up with Crunchyroll to stream the Crunchyroll Anime Awards for the past two years. This year, Twitch exclusively streamed the anime marathon as part of the pre-show and garnered more than 1.3 million viewers and 19 million cumulative minutes watched. The Anime Awards received over 5 million votes across 15 categories from fans around the world.

This is also another step towards anime becoming more and more a part of today’s popular culture in America. Anime has experienced incredible growth over the past year and with more and more streaming services adding anime to their catalogs, with more and more conventions popping up, the momentum continues to grow without any signs of it stopping. Crunchyroll has remained the leader during this growth with over 50 million registered users and 2 million subscribers.

Crunchyroll has a library of over 1,000 anime series (30,000 episodes) and 360-degree content pieces including Crunchyroll Games, Crunchyroll Expo, Crunchyroll Movie Night, Crunchyroll News, merchandise, social media, and more.

The Twitch Prime service is also included if you are a member of Amazon Prime. All Amazon Prime and Prime Video members can connect their existing accounts at http://www.twitchprime.com
