40 Games I’d Like To See On The Sega Genesis Mini / Mega Drive Mini

By Keith MitchellMay 10, 2019
lots of sega genesis games

With the announcement of Sega’s upcoming Sega Genesis Mini / Mega Drive Mini, I couldn’t stop thinking about all those games I grew up on.

So many games I enjoyed during my youth, all of which I’d love to see on this retro console. Of course, there’s way more than 40 games, more than what Sega is providing with the Sega Genesis Mini. That got me thinking about which games I’d play if Sega put them on the console.  As such I’ve come up with 40 games, some of which have already been announced. In no particular order of importance, here are the games I feel should be on the Sega Genesis Mini. Some are classic hits, some have huge followings and some, well, are guilty pleasures.

With anymore delay, here’s my list.

  1. Streets of Rage 1
  2. Streets of Rage 2
  3. Outrun
  4. Sonic the Hedgehog 1
  5. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  6. Sonic & Knuckles
  7. Mystic Defender
  8. Comix Zone
  9. Aera Blasters/Air Buster
  10. Gaiares
  11. Landstalker: The Treasures Of King Nole
  12. Phantasy Star 2
  13. Phantasy Star 4: The End of the Millennium
  14. Contra: Hardcorps
  15. Shining in the Darkness
  16. Shining Force 2
  17. Ristar the Shooting Star
  18. Beyond Oasis
  19. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  20. Super Street Fighter II
  21. Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker
  22. The Revenge of Shinobi
  23. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  24. Shadow Dancer
  25. Eternal Champions
  26. Disney’s Aladdin
  27. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist
  28. Zombies Ate My Neighbors
  29. Altered Beast
  30. Ranger X
  31. Alien Soldier
  32. Gunstar Heroes
  33. Strider
  34. Thunderforce III
  35. Thunder Force IV / Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar
  36. Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
  37. Vectorman
  38. Castlevania: Bloodlines
  39. Rolling Thunder 2
  40. Columns II
  41. Golden Axe II

Yep, that’s a lot of games and a large portion of my childhood with the Sega Genesis. It was also pretty hard to name just 40 games, but there they are. Granted I know some of these games may not even make it. Such as Sonic the Hedgehog and Moonwalker due to licensing issues, but I can dream.
