Weathering With You Receives Novel

By Josh PiedraApril 12, 2019
Weathering With You

It was announced by KADOKAWA that Makoto Shinkai’s upcoming movie Weathering With You (Tenki no Ko) will be receiving a novel. The novel is set to be released by KADOKAWA’s Kadokawa Bunko Imprint on July 18, one day before the movie begins playing in Japanese theaters. Makoto Shinkai will be writing the novel, just as he did for your name. (Kimi no Na wa).

If you can read and understand Japanese and don’t mind paying import fees, bookstores are accepting pre-orders for the novel and they will run 600 yen (~$5.36 USD). The first print edition of the book will come with a special cover with a message from Makoto Shinkai as well as his autograph, a ticket for a limited time event to be held in Tokyo in August, and an entry coupon to win a hardcover edition of the novel with a serial number and his autograph.

A key visual for the novel was released which you can view below:

Makoto Shinkai released the following quote about the novel and the film:

“While I am still writing the novel ‘Weathering With You’ (and the film is in the middle of production. Many things are on a tight schedule, laugh), I have added a lot of scenes to make both the film and the novel more enjoyable. I have enjoyed writing so much. I hope this will be a book that will remain in your summer memories of this year. I will do my best with all my strength until the end of writing.”

CoMix Wave is creating the film while Toho is distributing it. Weathering With You is set to release on July 19 in Japan.
