Don’t Expect the Next-Gen PlayStation Console Until After Spring 2020

We already know the next generation of consoles are already on everybodies minds. It didn’t help much when Mark Cerny dropped some details about Sony’s upcoming next-gen PlayStation. Or that Microsoft looks primed to unleash a massive load of next-gen Xbox news at E3 2019. There’s just so much going on right now.

While we don’t have any dates for when we can starting dropping some money down for these consoles. Sony has at least made everyone aware that they shouldn’t expect the next PlayStation at all this year. Or for that matter, not until after Spring 2020. According to Wall Street Journal’s Takashi Mochizuki, Sony is telling everyone that they are 12 months out from the release of the console.

Sony:
-No next-gen PlayStation launch over next 12 months
-PS Now has been ave. 40% annual growth since launch, now 700,000 users
-Much of Y31.1 billion (difference between past fy op vs this fy op outlook) to be invested to develop next PlayStation console

Meaning that the earliest we’ll see it is perhaps Summer 2020, maybe E3 2020? With the more rational thought being that perhaps we won’t see this until the Fall or Winter of 2020, just in time for the shopping holiday?

So at the very least, we have another year to start saving up those pennies. Now we’ll need to see what Microsoft is planning. Will we see their console first? Or are they going to play the waiting game and see how Sony’s plans unfold.
