Pokemon Sword and Shield Revealed, First Look At Gen 8!

By Todd BlackFebruary 27, 2019
Pokemon Sword and Shield

Though we’ve been expecting it for a while, and while we all believed that Gen 8 would be revealed today via the Pokemon Nintendo Direct, you never know what Nintendo or the Pokemon Company is going to reveal. Thankfully, our prayers were answered, and Pokemon Sword and Shield has been revealed as Generation 8 for the core series, and as the core titles coming to Nintendo Switch.

Through the footage that we got to see, we can instantly tell that Pokemon Sword and Shield is going to be very beautiful. The team at Game Freak went into great detail developing the world. Improving upon what they did in recent Pokemon core titles, and added their own little tweaks, such as have the female avatar brush herself off when she thinks she’s dirty.

The region we’ll be in is the Galar Region, and it’s definitely unique in terms of layout. It’s very vertical, not unlike a sword or shield, and yet, the team noted that it’s a very expansive region, which likely means that there’s more than meets the eye.

Of course, telling us about the region isn’t enough, we needed to know about the new Pokemon. We didn’t get a lot, but, we did get a look at the three starter Pokemon for Pokemon Sword and Shield. The Grass-Type: Grookey, the Fire-Type: Scorbunny, and the Water-Type: Sobble.

Finally, the team reiterated that the titles would be coming out in Late 201v9, but, they also said that there are more Pokemon titles on the way in 2019.

You can watch the full Direct below.

Update: Added the official trailer and the Galar Region map
