Now we know why The Last Remnant was delisted on Steam

Here comes The Last Remnant Remastered Edition

Last month, Square Enix sent us word that The Last Remnant on Steam would be delisted. Once that happened, no one would be able to purchase the game, however, those who already own the game would be able to re-download it.

When we asked for more information as to why this was happening out of the blue, our request went unanswered. We figured that if this was happening, it was due to some sort of remake or remastering coming out soon. And just like clockwork, Square Enix announced today that a remaster of The Last Remnant was coming out for the playstation 4. But here’s the rub. The game was exclusive to the Xbox 360 and eventually, it came to the PC. There was supposed to be a release on the PlayStation 3, which ended up being canceled.

Now it seems that the reverse is happening. This new remaster is strictly for PS4  (for now) running on the unreal engine 4. The original game ran on the Unreal Engine 3.

The announcement of the remastered has only been for the PlayStation 4. I can confirm this by not only from reports on other gaming sites but also via the press materials that Square Enix sent over to us.

Originally released in 2008, THE LAST REMNANT captured the hearts and minds of gamers with its enthralling story, countless characters and intricate battle system. THE LAST REMNANT Remastered features beautifully enhanced graphics enabled by UnrealEngine 4, allowing for a more immersive and captivating adventure than ever before.

THE LAST REMNANT Remastered tells the story of a world filled with “Remnants” — ancient artefacts that grant mysterious power to their wielders, changing the world’s balance and leading to an era of countless frays between those who ruled, and those who obeyed. Within this war-torn fantasy world, players will follow the journey of a young man who is determined to uncover the truth.

THE LAST REMNANT Remastered will be available digitally via the PlayStation Network for $19.99.

That release states it will be in PSN on Dec. 6, 2018. I’m assuming this will be a worldwide release.

I’ve reached out to Square Enix again about at the very least a PC version of the remaster. It would stink if only the PlayStation owners got to experience this. Now, this isn’t console bashing or anything of the sort. It’s just that The Last Remnant is an amazing JRPG. A hidden gem I could say, especially on the PC. It didn’t get much attention, however, those that played it have acknowledged it as a wonderful gaming experience. Especially the battle system.

Admittedly, I played a few hours of it and never finished the title on my Xbox 360. I never picked it up for the PC and when I planned on doing so, I completely forgot to. Of course, my Xbox 360 version isn’t backward compatible with my Xbox One.

I can only hope that this does eventually come to the PC to replace the delisted version. Possibly the Xbox One as well. If not, there’s still copies of the game on Amazon and eBay. They also happened to be priced pretty cheaply as well.
