WWE 2K Showcase returns in WWE 2K19 with ‘The Return of Daniel Bryan’

By Clinton Bowman-ChristieAugust 15, 2018

2K Sports has announced that the WWE 2K Showcase will be returning to WWE 2K19, and this year’s focus is on the ‘Goatface Killa’ Daniel Bryan, in what is being billed ‘The Return of Daniel Bryan.’

If you’re a fan of sports entertainment, pro wrestling…whatever you want to call it, then you surely know of the story of Bryan Danielson over the last few years. Danielson was forced into retirement due to concerns with several concussions that he received throughout his wrestling career – many of which were hidden from most promoters he worked with, including Vince McMahon and Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque of World Wrestling Entertainment. From public outcry to the support of his closest friends and family, including his wife Brianna Danielson (Brie Bella) and John Cena – and a pretty baller stint as SmackDown Live General Manager – Daniel Bryan eventually was cleared for competition earlier this year and is poised for a heated matchup over eight years in the making against Michael ‘The Miz’ Mizanin at SummerSlam this weekend. That said, Danielson has had quite the historic run in the company, from his first match as an enhancement talent against John Cena in 2003, to his epic match against  Cena 10 years later at SummerSlam 2013, to a career-defining WrestleMania Moment against not only Triple H, but Randy Orton and Guardians of the Galaxy star David Bautista at WrestleMania XXX.  You also can’t forget Team Hell No, the team of Danielson and the Mayor-Elect of Knox County, Tennessee, the Honorable Glenn ‘Kane’ Jacobs.

The Return of Daniel Bryan Showcase will feature multiple matches, including the following confirmed matches:

  • John Cena vs Bryan Danielson – WWE Velocity, February 8, 2003
  • Team Hell No vs Kofi Kingston & R-Truth (c) – WWE Tag Team Championship – Night of Champions 2012
  • Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton – Street Fight – Monday Night RAW – June 24, 2013
  • Daniel Bryan & Bray Wyatt vs The Usos – Steel Cage – Monday Night RAW – January 13, 2014
  • Daniel Bryan vs Triple H – Winner Gets Added to WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match – WrestleMania XXX
  • Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton (c) vs Batista – WWE World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat – WrestleMania XXX
  • Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn – WrestleMania 34

This marks the first time that we’ve seen WWE 2K Showcase mode since WWE 2K17, where the Showcase focused on the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame Inductees in lieu of a Brock Lesnar – that year’s cover athlete – showcase. WWE 2K18 did not feature a Showcase mode.

WWE 2K19 releases for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam on October 9. Players who pre-order will get access to playable versions of former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey and former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio, as well as early access to the game on October 5.
