Overlord Receives Free RPG Game

By Josh PiedraAugust 1, 2018

It was announced by the official website for Kugane Maruyama’s Overlord that the franchise will be receiving a free RPG game. Those who are expecting grandiose on the scale of something like Final Fantasy may be disappointed to know that the free RPG was built using Game Maker MV.

In the Overlord game, players can control either Momon or Narberal with the goal to become adamantite-ranked adventurers. The game is available for download now on both the Windows and Mac platforms but if you don’t want to waste hard drive space, you can also play the title within your web browser. It should be noted that if you opt to play the web browser version, you will need to sign up for a NicoNico account. NicoNico is, essentially, the Japanese version of YouTube and can be found at http://www.nicovideo.jp/

A few screenshots of the game have been released which you can view below:

The third season of the television anime is currently airing in Japan. MyAnimeList.net describes the story of Overlord as follows:

The story begins when Yggdrasil, a popular online game is quietly shut down one day. However, the protagonist Momonga decides to not log out until the end. Momonga is then transformed into the image of a skeleton as “the most powerful wizard.” The world continues to change, with non-player characters (NPCs) beginning to have personalities. Having no parents, friends, or place in society, this ordinary young man Momonga then strives to take over the new world the game has become.
