John “Totalbiscuit” Bain Passes Away

By Josh PiedraMay 24, 2018
Totalbiscuit

We are sad to report that one of gaming’s most popular critics, John Bain, has passed away after a losing battle with bowel cancer. He was 33.

Most famously known by his aliases Totalbiscuit, The Cynical Brit, and Totalhalibut, Bain was the voice of Warcraft Radio from 2005 to 2010 and was widely known for his role as a caster for games such as Starcraft II and PlanetSide 2. Bain amassed a large following on YouTube with over two million subscribers.

Bain announced that he had terminal bowel cancer back in October 2015 but he delivered the good news that his cancer had gone into remission. His cancer returned and ended up spreading into his spine and liver to the point where chemotherapy treatments were no longer effective. Last month, Bain stated that he was retiring from his work as a gaming critic and discontinuing treatments. He vowed to make the remainder of his life as comfortable as possible by participating in co-op streaming alongside his wife.

During his announcement, Bain made the following statement:

“I fully expect The Co-optional Podcast to go on and I love the thought that once I’m gone, the channels will go on in my absence, hosted by the person who knows me best and has been with me for the better part of my adult life. It’s been a privilege. Thank you all for letting me into your life and do something so important as to have an impact on how you spend your hard-earned money.”

The announcement of his passing was made on both his official Twitter account and his wife’s Twitter account.

Needless to say, we here at The Outerhaven are heartbroken over the news and we offer Genna and the rest of the Bain family our thoughts and prayers in this difficult and trying time. May you rest in peace, Totalbiscuit. You will be sorely missed.
