‘Hellboy’ Reboot to Star David Harbour, Releasing Next Year

By Andrew AgressApril 13, 2018

Despite winning an Oscar for The Shape of Water this year, Guillermo Del Toro won’t be back to direct Hellboy. Instead Neil Marshall takes the helm to reboot the franchise. And with a new take on Hellboy comes a new lead to play the demon. David Harbour of Stranger Things will star as Hellboy. Rounding out the cast are Sophie Okonedo, Brian Gleeson, Alistair Petrie, and Ian McShane.

Originally titled Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, the title was changed to simply Hellboy, likely to avoid confusion with the originals. However, the film will still feature the Blood Queen storyline. Milla Jovovich will play Nimue, said queen, according to Den of Geek. Nimue will be the film’s villain, if the name “Blood Queen” didn’t already convey that.

Mike Mignolla, the original creator of the Hellboy comics, wrote the script. He had a number of helpers, with Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden, and Aron Coleite also sharing writing duties. The rebooted film will feature an R rating.

Hellboy will arrive in theaters on January 11, 2019.

A big fan of Final Fantasy VII, Uncharted, and Metal Gear Solid, Andrew loves great stories and any and all things horror flavored. He also works in the world of interactive theater, its own kind of gaming. Andrew gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
